Visitor Visa (Subclass 600)

A Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) lets you visit Australia for tourism, family visits or holidays. Granted for three, six or 12 months, the length depends on your situation and supporting evidence.

There are various streams including the sponsored family stream and the tourist streams.

Key Requirements

  • Must genuinely intend a temporary stay, with no plan to remain in Australia permanently.

  • Demonstrate sufficient financial resources (e.g. bank statements, sponsorship letters) for travel and accommodation.

  • Have a clear travel purpose (holiday, family visit or leisure).

  • Show strong ties to your home country (employment, property, or family responsibilities) to prove you will return.

  • No outstanding debts to the Australian Government, or demonstrate a repayment arrangement.

  • Applicants may need health and character checks.

Department of Home Affairs processing times and costs

​​

  • Generally applications will take between 7 and 40 days, depending on country of residence and personal factors.

  • Fees start from around AUD 195, depending on length of stay and priority processing. In some cases, the Department will request the sponsor to pay a bond for applications under the family sponsored stream.
