An Australian partner visa allows the spouse or de facto partner of an Australian citizen or permanent resident to live in Australia. There are two main pathways: an onshore visa (subclass 820 leading to 801) and an offshore visa (subclass 309 leading to 100). Both streams require a genuine relationship and meeting health and character checks. A Prospective Marriage visa (subclass 300) is also available for engaged couples, allowing entry to marry before applying for a partner visa. Importantly, recent changes mean partner visas can be granted whether you’re in Sydney, Melbourne or even overseas at decision time, offering more flexibility.
